In August of 2009, Yuliya V Ivanova and her co-author Joan Winn were invited to Chicago to receive the most prestigious award in Management from the Public and Non-Profit Division of the Academy of Management. When Dr.Ivanova arrived to the ceremony on August 9, she found that her research was not only a winner of one division, but also a top-five finalist of the all-Academy contest. More than 8,000 research papers from 78 countries have been submitted for this contest in 2009.

The Carolyn Dexter Award is an all-Academy award given to the single paper that best meets the objective of internationalizing the Academy. The paper is rigorously evaluated by the sponsoring International Theme Committee using the following criteria:
1. Papers are considered for the Carolyn Dexter Award if they offer new insights, are rich in observation, and employ creative methodologies. Submissions are welcomed of topics or methods that are not in the U.S. mainstream, but are important in other countries' research traditions and are of excellent quality in accord with the criteria of these traditions.
2. The theme and content of the paper should reflect an awareness of business and management outside domestic boundaries;
3. Collaboration between scholars from different countries.

The research of Dr. Ivanova and Dr. Winn is titles “The Role of Social Capital and Donor Commitment in a Geographically Isolated Community”.
